I haven't even left Porto yet and I count on having passed through at least 21 passage doors until I set foot on Madeiran soil. It took 21 passage doors just to have my lovely little feet on another piece of land. There are so many passages that may not mean more than that, reaching another place, but they can also mean a panoply of transformations, and we never know for sure what will happen on the other side of each door, portal, gate … We've all heard of multiple tragedies after a rite of passage. There is no ritual here!… it's just a lot of passages. So many passages. To reach the exhibition site each person will have to face a few more passages, and inside they have the option of an ultimate passage. But well, let’s step back in time before even each passage becomes something measurable and mysterious.
Some time ago I had a meeting with Croma that has shaped me until today. Croma is a fantastic character who introduced itself in a hurry when it saw me coming close: “Croma is my name, and I am extremely insane”. I was blown away, I felt washed out, and as soon as I regained my energy I decided to rescue it from Patty's store.
It was Croma who told me this thing about the passages and it didn’t, and doesn’t, stop using them. It uses them to lead us through different stories, and that's how one day it pushed me into the story of a passerby that I had been following for months. When getting into an office supply shop, this character slipped on a bill. It was a holiday eve and, as we all know, a holiday eve is a day of fun in the store. The employer leaves earlier, the employees stay in the shop but this is not an obstacle to things being like they are. Well, João got up, confused and embarrassed, and walked into the shop, and out of nowhere zaaaaaauuuu all those figures were taken by surprise and zaaaaaazzzz all eyes on me. Employees in revelry looking at the only customer who dared to enter a store like that on the eve of a Spring holiday. And João, still troubled by the fall and confused by such confusion, realizes that she had slipped on a bill. She quickly turns back and taaaaau nailed it !!!!, and a crowd pointed to that beautiful fifty. One can say it was right in the bull’s eye!… but did she fly? We don't know, in the rush to claim the note for herself, João turns back and goes through the metal door arch of the staples and paperweights shop. There she meets Maria, who becomes petrified between the two access doors to the shop, and Croma loses track of João in the mess.
